PAYMENT OF DEFENCE FAMILY PENSION BY BANKS

Recently I had an opportunity to view the monthly pension payment list of Defence pensioners.  I was shocked to see, that many special category pensions like Special Family Pension, Liberalised Family Pension, War Injury Pension and Disability pensions have not been revised according to the latest CDA Circular instructions.

For a casual viewer, the list does not give any clue to find out whether the listed pensioners are being paid their correct revised rate of pension or not.  The columns created in the list does not provide any information about the Rank, Group, Number of years of service and the date of discharge of the pensioner.  Therefore, if there is any error in the amount of pension paid, it will be continued for ever.

However, the PPO Number given in list gives some clue that the Special category pensioners like Special Family Pensioners, Liberalised Family Pensioners/War injury pensioners and Disability pensioners are paid less.  Since these pensioners are identified by Special Prefixes Like ‘F’, F/BC, ‘D’ etc., their pensions are also different.  For example the minimum Special Family pension is Rs.7000 p.m. w.e.f. 1.1.2006.  You will find in the list that most of the special family pensioners are getting only Rs.3,500 instead of Rs.7000/-.

Similarly the minimum liberalized family pension (F/BC) is Rs.10,600 for Gp.’X’Sepoy’s wife and Rs.9,200 for the wives of other Groups of Sepoys.  Now you will find in the list that none of the Liberalised family pensioners is getting that amount.

We have published a list of about 115 Defence family pensioners of special category who are being paid less against their entitlement for a long period.  As on date each pensioner is likely to get a minimum arrears of around 3 lacs.  Thus a total arrears of around 3.5 crores remaining unpaid due  lack of awareness among the Defence pensioners. (Here I don’t blame the banks, because we must somehow know the rates of our pension entitlements, and the Welfare Associations must help them in this regard)

We have given the names, PPO numbers and place of pensioners who are drawing less pension.  We are making all out efforts to get their addresses for helping them.  In the meantime, if any of our readers come across about any pensioner in the list, kindly inform  their address to enable us to get their correct pension and arrears.
