THE FREE COLOR TV DISTRIBUTION
The news about the distribution of free color TV to the residents of Santhinagar, a middle class colony within the Tirunelveli Municipal Corporation limits spread like wild fire early in the morning on 01.07.2010.
People rushed to the designated place even leaving the doors of their houses open. The neighboring streets looked deserted. As a resident of that colony for the past 25 years, I have been watching each and every one. I found most of them rushing for the free color TV were already having one or two high quality TVs in their homes. A colony, which use to have deserted look even in the evening due to the encroachment of cheap TV homely serials, suddenly appeared too busy for grabbing the free color TVs.
I over heard some government officials, bank staff talking for one day leave to their bosses for collecting these TVs. Even some people rushed in their own cars to collect the TVs
This is how the people’s mentality is measured by wise politicians for their political gain. Nearly one thousand residents rushed for the TVs who are all already having one in their home. None of them rejected the free TV offer which is a wasteful expenditure in this case.
If they all join together, and ask something else for the development of the colony, the cost of 1000 TVs around 50 lakhs could be used for other development purposes of the colony. Will these educated citizens realize?
The free color TV scheme in TN is for political gain. What is needed is quality health care for all, good education for all, protected drinking water, good roads, sanitation, cleanliness of the surroundings, aged care, employment opportunities, uninterrupted power supply etc., etc.
IS THE FREE COLOR TV BEYOND ALL THE ABOVE NEEDS? PEOPLE MUST THINK BEFORE ACCEPTING ANY FREE ITEMS BY THE GOVERNMENT.

It is a real and wonderful scene to watch the plight of people rushing for a free TV forgetting their own household at their home. It is difficult to change the minds of such lot. The politicians know the weak points to cover the people.

Iam very appreciated your thinking, but out country politicians are knowing, how to cover the public people. There is no word telling like this, This is our country ISO trade mark.
Our Country politicians aim is " NO JOB GETTING SALARY"
