PENSION MELA AT MADURAI ON 18, 19 OF FEB 2013
Following the nationwide demand of the ex-servicemen
and their families for One Rank One Pension, a great awareness has been created
among the pensioners to find out whether they are being paid the correct rate
of pension or not by various banks.
There is a general feeling among the Defence
pensioners that the Banks are not helpful in getting the correct pension and
arrears in time. After the formation of
CPPC, the situation has become worse in some banks.
After observing the difficulties faced by the Defence
pensioners, the GOC of Area HQ at Chennai conducted a number of meeting with
the Bankers with the help of Col.A and arranged pension Melas in important
cities in Tamil nadu to solve the problems.
Acccordingly the Ex-servicemen Help Line Centre at
Fort St. George, Chennai conducted a number of pension Melas at Tirunelveli,
Kovilpatti, Thuthukudi, Madurai, Sivagangai, Theni in the recent months and
done excellent service to the pensioners.
Pension short payments were detected at the Melas and immediate action
was taken to restore the correct pension with the help of the Bankers present
at the Mela.
The State Bank of India, Canara Bank, Indian Bank
deputed their officers at the Mela to solve the problems on the spot. The pension melas are very helpful to the
pensioners to know their entitlement.
The Ex-servicemen helpline centre is very much helpful
to the veterans. The pension Mela team,
consisting of Working staff from MRC Wellington, MEG, Bangalore and of course
the Exwel Trust from Tirunelveli, Banks staff and the staff of ESM helpline
centre
Hon.Capt.David, Hav.Sundaram, Hav.Ganesan and the
Zilla Sainik Officers of Madurai, Thuthukudi, Sivagangai, Theni and the
Ex-servicemen Associations at Kovilpatti etc. have done excellent work in the mela.
