DEFENCE PENSION
MELA AT TIRUNELVELI.
A Defence Pension Mela was
arranged by the HQ ATNK&K Area at Ex-servicemen Canteen at Tirunelveli on
21 and 22 Jan 2013 from 9 AM to 6 PM.
Around 350 defence pensioners including family pensioners attended the
mela on both the days.
The objective of this Mela
is to call all pensioners at their convenient place (Exsm. Canteen) and verify
that they are paid their pension correctly by the Banks. This method is used, since most of the
defence pensioners are not aware of their correct pension entitlement. The Verification of pension is done by some
retired ex-servicemen bank officials who are having sound knowledge in Defence
Pension (Exwel Trust and NGO run by Ex-servicemen). If there is any discrepancy in the pension,
the matter is promptly sorted out by the visiting Bank officials at the Mela.
State Bank of India, CPPC,
Chennai and Canara Bank deputed their officials to attend this mela. Apart from verification of pension, the
visiting pensioners were given a calculation sheet for the arrears of revised
pension payable from 24.9.2012. The
State Bank officials were very keen to
settle some pension problems on the spot by giving instructions over phone to
their CPPC at Chennai.
As a whole, the pension
mela was a grand success. The Banks
promised to settle the discrepancies at the earliest. A pension guide book (in Tamil) and the
latest revised pension tables were made available at the mela.
The services rendered by
the Ex-servicemen Helpline Centre, Chennai-9 under the able guidance of
Hon.Capt.David and his Staff Hav.Sundaram and Hav.Ganesan have been excellent. Our sincere appreciation to State Bank, CPPC
Chennai Staff Shri.Parthiban, Dy.Manager and Shri.Sreenivasan, Spl. Asst.) and
Canara Bank Officials.
The Exwel Trust Team lead
by Sgt.R.Chellappa, Flt.Lt.M.P.Natarajan, Sgt.S.Kandiah and Sgt.C.Muthukrishnan
have done excellent work at the Mela.
Our sincere thanks to GOC,
ATNK&K Area Hq, Lt.Gen.VK Pillai, AVSM, SM and Col.A. Col.V.V.Subramaniam at
Chennai-9, and request conduct similar melas at various places where
ex-servicemen population is concentrated.

Hats-off to Exwel Trust and the Officer bearers Tvli ESM Assn. EX-WO S Ramanan
Sir,
1. Your trust is doing very good effort for ex servicemen. Keep it up
Thanks to Ex well Trust
I congratulate you efforts in solving the pensioners. However I would like to bring to your notice that the Dual Family Pension sanctioned vide circular 504 dtd 17/01/2013 may not be applicable to the family pensioners of SBI, as it seems there are still hurdles. I understand that SBI needs to amend their pension act accordingly.Hence kindly take up this with the concerned authorities so that Ex servicemen who served in SBI also get eligible for the Dual Family Pension like others.-----Retd SBI employee
