PLEASE HELP THE AGED PENSIONERS
TO GET ADDITIONAL PENSION ALONG WITH COMPENSATION.
RBI had issued instructions as early as April 9, 2010 that all pension paying banks should compensate the pensioner for the delay if any in crediting the pension/arrears thereof by paying compensation at Bank rate plus 2% penal interest for the delay after the due date automatically without waiting for any claim from the pensioner.
Now, can any bank say that they have paid the pension arrears without delay ? The answer is no. Same way, can any bank say that they have paid any compensation to any pensioner so far. Again the answer is no.
The Banks neither pay the pension arrears in time, nor pay any compensation for the delay. Under the circumstances, what is the way out to get the compensation ? It is the pensioner, who should be alert to make use of this RBI circular to claim compensation. In case of aged pensioners, the payment of ADDITIONAL PENSION is delayed abnormally. In such cases, where the date of birth of the aged pensioner is correctly recorded and the bank ignores the payment of additional pension, the pensioner can claim compensation for the delay.
Suppose, the date of birth of a Hon.Capt.is 1.1.1921, the bank ignores his date of birth, and continue to pay the basic pension of Rs.13,850 till date, without paying the 30% additional pension. In this case, as per RBI circular, the pensioner can claim a compensation of around Rs.30,000/- in addition to the arrears of additional pension of around Rs.2 lacs.
