ARMY GROUP INSURANCE 

 

Unique Features of Extended Insurance (EI) Scheme

 

·         No Medical Examination required. Even Sub standard life (Low Medical Category) covered for the same amount at the same premium.

·         High risk category personnel, such as Heart, cancer, Renal disorder and AIDS patients also covered without discrimination

·         Simple procedure for payment of EI Benefits.

·         Nomination procedure exists.

·         All Low Medical Category persons eligible for EI provided they have adequate funds available in their maturity amount at the time of their retirement/invalidment/release/discharge.

·         Period for cover is as mentioned on the EI Certificate.

·         Discontinuation of Medical Benefit Scheme and Introduction of ECHS. With the implementation of ECHS which is a compulsory scheme for all retiring defence personnel with pension, new membership of AGIF Medical Benefit Scheme has been discontinued with effect from 01 Apr 2003. The existing AGI Medical Benefit Scheme has been finally closed on 31 Mar 2006. The existing members can claim refund of their AGI Medical Benefit Scheme subscription by forwarding an application to AGIF with following details:-

o    Returning of original MBS card along with application.

o    Details of bank account, bankers name and postal address.

o    Whether member has joined ECHS or not (for data collection purpose only)

o    Address of the applicant with tele No. (As applicable).

 

As on 31 Oct 07, 2,03,630 Members have been paid the refund of their subscription.

 

·         Social Security Deposit (SSD) Scheme for Widows and Minor Children of the Deceased Members.

o    SSD Scheme introduced in Nov 78 with the aim to safeguard the interest of the Widows and minor children and ensure security of their deposits.

o    Under the scheme, AGI Insurance benefits of widows or minor children of deceased personnel are invested by the AGIF in Nationalized Banks in cumulative or non-cumulative account to the extent of amount and period stipulated by the member in his nomination.

o    Widow can also opt for the scheme at the time of disbursement of benefits if the husband has not specified in the Nomination form.

o    Interest accrued on non-cumulative deposits paid quarterly.

o    For minor children, amount will be invested till they attain the age of majority with quarterly interest payable to legal guardian, if required, and in case of widows for a period of one to five years, as indicated by the member in the Nomination form or opted by the widow.

o    An additional interest of 1.28 per cent per annum is provided over and above the Bank rate on Social Security Deposits provided the investment is done by AGIF for more than two years.

o    Bank Fixed Deposit receipts are retained in AGIF for monitoring payment of interest and period of deposit under intimation to the beneficiary.

o    2988 widows and 2932 minors have obtained benefits amounting to Rs.97.50 crore under this scheme till 31 Oct 2007. Presently, 1172 widows and 7207 minor children are members with a deposit of Rs.153.37 Crore.
