DEFENCE FAMILY PENSION
The rate of family pension depends upon the rank and group of the deceased ex-serviceman. Many widows are not aware of the ranks of their husbands and also most of the pension paying banks are also not having the correct particulars of the deceased ex-serviceman. Therefore, the banks simply pay the minimum family pension of Rs.3,500 and continue till the time the widow wakes up and knocks the door and claims with the proof of their husbands ranks.
One interesting thing you will notice is that these widows are very much aware of their liquor quota. A JCO and a Hon. Officer's wife never misses their liquor quota from the canteen. But these same widows somehow misses their correct monthly pension. This situation is really painful. Here the canteen is helping to get her correct quota for various reasons. But the banks are not helping in this way. For the benefit of the family pensioners, we give below the rates of family pension payable to various ranks in Army and their equivalent ranks in Navy and Air Force.

Is it not an injustice ?
Even these rates of defence family pension is a great injustice. When the improvement in the pension to bridge the gap in pension of Pre 1.1.2006 and Post 1.1.2006 was implemented, w.e.f. 1.7.2009 for other ranks, the Government (MOD)/Cabinet Secretary’s Committee report cleverly omitted the family pensioners in getting corresponding increase. (CDA circular No.430 was made non-applicable for the family pensioners.)
With great struggle, this issue was taken up by the IESM with the Raksha Mantri and Smt.Sonia Gandhi. Now it is understood that this point is under consideration. Once it is accepted by the Government, the family pension is likely to be revised as given in our Blog Post dt.29.11.2011.
The credit goes to IESM which took up the matter utmost sincerity for the widows.
