IMPROVING
LIVES --- COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AND ADVOCACY
A GREAT SOCIAL WORKER
Wg.Cdr.K.Parthasarathy,
is a New Generation (80 Yrs) social worker, writer, publisher, and analyst. He served in the
Indian Air Force for more than 22 years as an administrator. He has participated in the 1962, 1965, and 1971 wars
in defense of India. He took premature retirement from the Indian Air
Force in 1983 to join Best &
Crompton, a maker of industrial equipment and electrical grids, in Chennai.
There, he followed a systematic approach to resolving union woes,
mediating cases of extreme difficulty, rising up to the post of Vice President
of Human Resources. For the past three
years, he has been publishing a news bulletin for military veterans and
widows to help them navigate through cumbersome paperwork, complexity of rules,
and overwhelming mix of emotions. He is the Vice President of the Air Force
Association, Avadi Chapter, for the past ten years. He is having a deep love for our country and an interest in military history.
Air
Marshal S. Varthaman, VM, VSM says:-
"Wg.Cdr. K. Parthasarathi is an ardent civic activist who has
transformed the Defence Enclave at Avadi into a place of pride for its 300
military veteran families. His dynamism and energy does not reflect his 80
years."
HE STRUGGLED TO KEEP MILITARY HOSPITAL DOORS OPEN IN AVADI
In 2011, Mr. Parthasarathi strongly objected a plan to
relocate the 64-year old military hospital in Avadi, one of the only three in
Tamil Nadu, to the state of Orissa. Nearly 7,000 veterans and their family
members benefit from the hospital services, he argued. Widows and
ex-servicemen rallied around him. He felt that it was unfair to make this
nation’s warriors travel more than 40 kms in case of an emergency. His pleas
were recorded in a local newspaper under the headline “Military Hospital Shift
Worries Ex-Servicemen.” The authorities relented. Three years on,
the hospital has kept its doors open.
HE FOUGHT TO IMPROVE ROADS IN DEFENCE ENCLAVE
As President of the Defense Enclave Homeowner’s
Association, Mr. K. Parthasarathi took up a civic cause by bemoaning the
large craters and potholes on the Muthapudupet road, causing motorists to lose
balance, harming pillion riders (mostly women and children) who are thrown off
the vehicles. The local Municipal Corporation took action to repair the road
after a newspaper captured Mr. Parthasarathi in action shoveling mud and gravel
to cover the potholes. Such random acts of service has earned him the esteem of
his neighborhood.
AIR FORCE VETERANS JOIN CHENNAI
FLOOD-RELIEF EFFORTS
In Avadi, a grassroots effort by Indian air force wives and
veterans has helped more than 600 households in flood-stricken areas .
Nearly Rs 1 lakh was raised to buy relief supplies .Among the items they've
collected and distributed so far: water, diapers, saris, sanitary products,
mats, bread spreads, food, and clothes for all ages. The veterans thank law
enforcement officials and local government for facilitating the relief
efforts in Kollapakkam, Jafferkhanpet, Mannapakkam, and Manali.
