ADDITIONAL PENSION AND LIFE TIME ARREARS
The payment of additional pension for the pensioners aged above 80 years have been simplified as far as possible. Yet there are instances of non payment to many aged pensioners.
As far as defence pensioners are concerned, the discharge book is sufficient to claim additional pension. In spite of very clear instructions from the government on subject, many banks insist to bring birth certificate to 85 years pensioners.
Many young officers of the Banks do not remember that who was ruling India 80 – 90 years back. What was the system of registering births and deaths in the year 1925 – 1930 is not known. In the circumstances, it is unfair to demand birth certificate to an 85 year old pensioner.
During the process of claiming additional pension, many pensioners die. The families claiming the LTA are also not aware of the entitlement of Additional Pension. As a result, the LTA of an 85 year old pensioner is settled by the Bank without paying the Additional pension. This is an unfair settlement of LTA.
Banks should verify the date of birth of the deceased pensioner and arrange to pay the additional pension also along with the LTA to the eligible persons of the family.
Thank you sir for bringing this information in the blog. we hope that the bankers will consider in future without insisting for fresh documents.
