UN DUE DELAY IN RELEASING THE FAMILY PENSION BY BANKS

Following the Centralization of pension payments by individual banks, the Pensioners have lost the link between the Pension paying Branch and the Pensioner.  Any discrepancy in the pension payment, any problem faced by the pensioner is not attended by the Branches.  Instead, the pensioners are asked to contact the respective CPPCs, which are situated in State Capitals.

The situation becomes worse for getting family pension released after the death of the pensioner.

·        The eligible family pension is not released promptly even if the PPO for family pension is available with the CPPC.

·        In come cases, the CPPCs continue to credit pension even after intimation of the death of the pensioner to the bank with death certificate.  This allows the dependents of the pensioner to withdraw money through ATMs even after the death of the pensioner, thus causing many legal problems.

·        The deceased pensioner’s account is not closed promptly and balanced paid to the Nominee/Legal heirs, wherever the discretionary powers of the branch managers could be used.

·        Generally the bank staff’s dealing with the deceased pensioner’s accounts and the live pension accounts are not sensitive to the problems of the pensioners.

The Banks must attend the grievances of the pensioners in a single window with a trained staff.

The writer feels that most of the problems on deceased pension account can be eliminated if the Nomination to a SB A/c / is made compulsory.

Will the Government / RBI take initiative in this issue?

All Defence Pensioners must keep their pension accounts jointly on E or S  basis.

If it is not possible to keep joint account, please give nomination to your account immediately.
