WAR INJURY PENSION

This may be defined as a pension which is sanctioned to an Armed Forces Personnel who is injured in a war or specified war like situations.  This is a compensation which is payable monthly to a war injured for the functional incapacity which he may have sustained during war, specified war like situations.  (For details visit PCDA(P) website.

The War Injury Pension consists of two elements. (a) Service Element (b) War Injury Element.

Service Element is equal to service pension to which he/she would have been entitled on the basis of his/her pay on the date of invalidment but counting service up to the date on which he/she woul have retired in that rank in the normal course including weightage as admissible.  There shall be no condition of minimum qualifying service for earning this element.

War Injury Element will be equal to reckonable emoluments last drawn for 100% disablement from 01.07.2009.

Lot many instructions are being issued on the subject by MOD and PCDA(P) periodically.  But a poor  Soldier (Sepoy) is unable find out as to how much War Injury Pension that he will get ?

For the benefit of these poor Sepoys, we give below the revised War Injury Pension rates from 01.07.2009.  We have calculated to the best of our knowledge and belief it is correct.  The readers may bear with us, if there is any error or any misinterpretation by the PSAs on the subject.

Now a Infantry Soldier (Sepoy Gp.D will get the following pension (Pre.1.1.2006) w.e.f. 01.07.2009.

Service Element will be Rs.4,600 (Irrespective of number of years of service)

War Injury Element       Rs.9,200 (For 100% disablement)

Total..                            Rs13,800

D.R. as on Apr 2011     Rs. 7,038

Total                            Rs.20,838

Note:  A 100% disabled Soldier is normally sanctioned Constant Attendant Allowance (CAA) @ Rs.3000 p.m. w.e.f. 1.1.2006.  This CAA is to be revised to Rs.3750 w.e.f. 1.1.2011.

As a result as of now 100% disabled war injured Sepoy GP D will get a

Total pension as on 1.4.2011 with CAA @ 3750  …..                          Rs.24,588

As against a Lt.Gen. (a top ranking officer in the Armed Forces) who is equally disabled like a Sepoy will get Rs.1,04,250 p.m. w.e.f. 1.7.2009.  (I don’t think there is any officer of this rank with 100% disability, but there are hundreds of 100% disabled war injured ORs all over India.

ONE HUMBLE REQUEST:

These soldiers must be paid their revised pension and arrears without any delay.  The banks must pay with delayed interest if not paid till date. The welfare Associations should help them.
